Sister and Brother Officers,
Time to Get Involved
F.O.C.O. is an organization of volunteers. We are always looking for members to get involved. Our organization functions as well as the most active member in each courthouse. Contact to volunteer.
2020 Membership Drive
Just a reminder, if you haven’t renewed your membership for 2020, time is running out. (If you have, please don’t send us a 2nd application and check!) Our Constitution provides that renewals must be paid by March 31st each year. Please renew now to avoid paying $40 for late renewal. New members can join through July 31st at the standard yearly $20 fee. Any memberships, late or new, received after July 31st, will be held and processed for 2021 membership. A membership application can be downloaded here.
2019 Review: The State of Your Organization
I am very pleased to say that membership approached 1,500 statewide this past year. I am also extremely proud that this past holiday season, thanks to the success of our Holiday Raffle, we were able to help members in Westchester with their Blythedale Children’s Hospital Project and our members in Suffolk with their Little Flower Home Toy Drive. Our raffles also provided $500 for the family of C.O. James Barbieri, $500 for the daughter of C.O. Dave Alexander and $1,500 to help C.O. Keith Young. Our Fifteenth Annual Teddy Bear Drive collected 739 bears for hospitalized and less fortunate children. Thanks to C.O. Jackie Delaney for coordinating the project and donation sites. Special thanks go to S.C.O. Tom Quinn and C.O. Christina Gordon for running holiday projects in Queens County. We also awarded seven $1,000 F.O.C.O. college scholarships to the children of our members. Would you like to run a Holiday Drive in your command to help your local community? We can help with ideas, support, promotion and F.O.C.O. donor pins. Start planning now, the holidays will be here before you know it.
Fourteenth Annual Pistol Competition
Congratulations to Westchester Supreme Court and Team Captain James Hansen for winning our Fourteenth Annual state wide competition; also congratulations to Sgt. James Hansen of Westchester Supreme Court for shooting the top individual score. Get involved in this year’s October competition and enter a team from your command. PLEASE REMEMBER THAT ALL SHOOTERS MUST BE F.O.C.O. MEMBERS FOR 2020, so have your team mail in their membership applications now before the deadlines.
Thirtieth Anniversary Dinner-Dance!
The celebration of this important milestone will take place on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the North Ritz Club in Syosset. This year we have an excellent group of honorees, including S.C.O. Rob Abarno, Court Officer Michelle Azzone, Court Officer Chris Furlani, Nick Gjelag Esq. Brian Sullivan (President Sheriffs C.O.B.A.) and Hon. Ignatius Muscarella. Tickets are available at $75 for members in good standing and $100 for nonmembers while quantities last.
***Dinner-Dance Journal***
We are able to fund our projects and scholarships throughout the year and keep prices low for our members by selling journal ads. If you know any business or attorney who would be interested in taking an ad, please give them a copy of the Journal Ad Request Form which can be downloaded on this website.
Major Martin D’Amico Memorial Scholarship
Major Martin D’Amico was a charter member and long time friend of F.O.C.O. He passed away after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. To honor his memory, our Annual College Scholarship will be awarded in his name by random drawing at our Dinner Dance on May 8, 2020. New applications for the Spring 2020 Semester must be received no later than April 24, 2020, please click here for an application.
Sponsor a new member for a chance to win 50 “Win for Life” scratch offs
F.O.C.O. prides itself on its history of being there for our members in times of need. The $20 dues you pay might be the best investment you make. Throughout the year, we receive many calls for assistance with 10-13s; unfortunately, our assistance to non-members is limited, so please encourage interested, eligible co-workers to join. Sponsor a new member and have a chance to win 50 “Win for Life” scratch offs. New Member applications must be received by July 31, 2020 to enter the drawing. The more new members you sponsor, the greater your chances of winning. Congratulations to C.O. Freddie Perez for winning the prize in 2019.
